LIME MORTAR CHOSEN FOR PERFECT COLOUR MATCH

For the exterior design of Drake Circus shopping centre, part of a major regeneration of Plymouth city centre, architects Chapman Taylor wanted to blend the building with the existing surrounding stone buildings. They also wanted to create a natural and aesthetically pleasing statement.

P&O Developments and main contractor Bovis Lend Lease chose natural purbeck stone for the cladding of the boundary walls to create a natural, yet rugged finish. However, the need for expansion joints in the masonry to accommodate any small movements in the building was a concern, as they would detract from the clean looking exterior lines.

They therefore specified Limetec® hydraulic lime mortar from Lime Technology. As well as a complementary colour match lime mortar can eliminate the need for unsightly expansion joints as it is eminently more flexible than cement based mortar.
