Get ready for Hemclad®!
May 13, 2010
Offering a sustainable alternative to composite cladding, Hemclad™ will give any project the green finish it deserves. A cladding panel made from Hemcrete™, a bio-composite made with a hemp and lime binder, it offers cost effective and sustainable panelling with all of the build performance and good looks of conventional products.
Key to Hemclad™’s green credentials is its negative embodied carbon. As the hemp that it contains absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere during its growth, it effectively stores atmospheric carbon, preventing climate change.
On top of this, Hemclad™ has superb insulation performance and is supplied in a range of U values from 0.15 to 0.25 W/m2K. Crucial to building envelopes, this minimises the need for heating and cooling, cutting energy use. The thermal inertia of Hemclad™ ensures that it absorbs heat during the day, releasing it slowly at night, again cutting heating requirements.
As the system incorporates a cavity it’s also less prone to summer overheating than solid composite panels – where one surface of the insulation is exposed to full effects of solar gain and the corresponding temperature increase of the bonded steel cladding.
Supplied to site in cassettes of 4m x 2.4m to fit the size of the building, Hemclad® represents not only a green, but also a hassle free cladding system. It can be finished with either eco-friendly lime renders or steel panels.
Hemclad™ is already proving a hit with designers and is currently being installed on a vast 6000m2 warehouse. Following Lime Technology’s history of blazing a trail in the development of sustainable materials, Hemclad® meets the environmental demands of modern construction head on.
